The definition of a hybrid bike
What is a hybrid bike, really? Until now, most hybrid bikes were a cross between several types of bicycles: city bikes, mountain bikes, and road bikes. However, new electric bikes bring a new dimension to the world of cycling, and hybrid also takes on a whole new meaning. Discover Anod's new definition of hybrid.
The special features of the Anod hybrid electric bike
The hybrid bike concept is a combination of several technologies. Anod has three that revolutionize the way electric bikes are designed. Let's take a look under the hood of this bike.
The battery

One of the most important components of an electric bike is the battery. This element often needs to be monitored both for wear and tear and for storage, otherwise you'll be stuck with a bike that can't move forward.
Unlike a conventional hybrid electric bike, the Anod Hybrid's unique feature is energy recovery during braking. Anod innovates by combining these two systems in a single bike. This allows the Anod Hybrid to use a battery designed to be practical and environmentally friendly. In fact, it contains 6 times less lithium than a conventional battery, weighing 650g. It literally fits in your pocket. A far cry from the 2 to 4 kg of conventional bicycle batteries. For added convenience, this battery can also be charged anywhere using a universal USB-C cable.
Supercapacitors (dual storage)
The other technology combined with the battery is the supercapacitor pack. But what exactly is it? These are energy storage devices that complement the lithium battery. When you brake, the kinetic energy generated usually turns into heat, which is lost to the air. Thanks to the MHR1 energy recovery motor, this energy is converted into electricity and then stored in the supercapacitors. This technology extends the battery's lifespan, ensuring continuous electric assistance, even when it is discharged.
Using supercapacitors to recharge the bike has three main advantages:
- Energy redistribution is much faster from the supercapacitors, allowing for better responsiveness from the bike, especially when you press the boost button for hill assistance.
- The process is recognized and effective since it is similar to that used by Formula 1 and Le Mans single-seaters with their braking energy recovery system.
- Using an independent power supply reduces the strain on the battery, thus increasing its durability.
- This separation of power sources allows you to benefit from electric assistance even when the battery is flat, or even to do without the battery. In addition, it prevents over-stressing the battery and prevents premature wear.
The advantages of a hybrid bike

Anod Hybrid bikes are hybrid city bikes that go against the grain of everything the industry is proposing. Let's take a look at the advantages of these three technologies combined to answer this simple question: what if my bike could recharge itself?
- Flexibility of use: A hybrid bike avoids dependence on a single power source. Indeed, even when the battery is flat, the Anod bike still benefits from electric assistance thanks to supercapacitors that store the energy stored during braking independently of the battery.
- Riding comfort: Hybrid bikes often have flat handlebars, which promote an upright riding position and therefore reduce fatigue over long distances. The saddles are also designed to ensure quality comfort;
- Effective braking: Most hybrid bikes are equipped with disc brakes, ensuring excellent braking performance in all weather conditions, and thus improving rider safety;
- Durability and Maintenance: Hybrid bikes are generally made of durable materials such as aluminum, which gives them a long lifespan while making them relatively lightweight.
At Anod, we're redefining the hybrid bike by merging technology and performance to deliver seamless electric assistance, even when the battery is discharged. Our innovative solutions, such as the use of supercapacitors, transform the riding experience by ensuring flexibility and durability.

FAQ
Is a hybrid bike a bike without a battery?
Although you can remove the battery from the Anod Hybrid and still benefit from electric assistance, this hybrid bike is only fully efficient with its two power sources. This is because the supercapacitor pack charges and discharges faster than a battery, which is why the Anod Hybrid combines it with a battery for better bike endurance.
Why choose a hybrid bike?
If you are looking for an urban electric hybrid bike, you will probably be interested in the lightness of its 650g battery, but also in its energy recovery during braking which means you can say goodbye to electrical failures in case your battery is flat.
What is a hybrid mountain bike?
In the future, hybrid mountain bikes will be available on the market. They will be sporty off-road bikes with an electrical system similar to the one used by Anod on urban bikes.
Are there hybrid mountain bikes?
Currently, hybrid technology is only applied to urban bikes. But perhaps the range of bikes will expand in the future.
What is the difference between a hybrid bike and an electric bike?
A conventional electric bike uses only a battery to provide electric pedaling assistance. In contrast, a hybrid bike, such as the Anod Hybrid, combines two independent power sources: a lithium-ion battery and supercapacitors. This combination not only extends battery life through brake energy recovery, but also ensures continuous assistance, even when the battery is discharged. A hybrid bike is therefore more versatile and efficient, offering better energy management and a longer range.
How does a hybrid bike work?
A hybrid bike works by combining a lithium-ion battery and a supercapacitor system to provide continuous electric assistance. When braking, kinetic energy that would normally be lost as heat is recovered and stored in the supercapacitors. These can then redistribute this energy quickly, providing immediate assistance, particularly when climbing or starting off. This technology reduces the strain on the battery, extending its lifespan while still providing electric assistance even when the battery is flat.
